Upgradeeee
« on: August 05, 2011, 04:04:51 AM »
Okay, I'm happy with my CPU but I really want to upgrade my cheap Radeon HD 5570 to something a bit more powerful... I was looking at the HD 6870, which I've found is around $190 which is awesome. Also found this http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-6850-6870-review/13 which shows a rather big leap from around 30fps to 113 fps =O  I'll need a better PSU as I only have a pretty no-name 420 watt running. I'm looking at the Coolermaster Extreme Power plus 550 watt PSU. After doing some reading, a 500 watt PSU or up should be fine. I'm just wondering if you guys think these upgrades are worth it.

It will only cost around $280 or less to get them both, but I'm not all that experienced with upgrades like this. Will the PSU be enough? Will the 6870 have a noticable difference?

Cheers guys!

Amero I run a MSI HD6870 which is brilliant. Unbeatable for the money.  Running PR at full guts I get 99FPS & even in ArmA II I can get about 40fps on the benchmark thing.. Oh & dont forget it does all that whilst running my other 2 screens at full res 1920x1200 or there abouts.. Cant remember the exact res..

I've never had anything Bad to say out of the Radeon's I've had over the years... From a X800 to 4850 to the 6870 all have been great cards..

Im looking at upgrading my whole system soon & this time Im going to get 2 x 6970's & put them in crossfire...

Better get a good psu ready for that =p

I used to think Radeon sucked too, Flat. I've always been a Nvidia guy, I felt like a traitor when I foudn out the system I have now had a Radeon card. But in all honesty they both have their strengths and weaknesses. I like the AMD Vision Engine control interface a lot better than the Nvidia control panel thing too, seems much more organised. I decided on a Radeon this time as the competing cards that Nvidia released for this particular price range and power level were quite a lot lower on the benchmark tests and cost a little more. Couldn't see myself wasting money for somethign slower really. I'm sure I'll get a Nvidia again one day though. They're like my secret love =p

I run two 5870's in Crossfire and runs brilliantly.
For less than $500 can't go wrong.

Nvidia GTX560T DirectCU2 60 fps in everything (capped at 60) no game has ever got it below 60.
